According to the Cambodian press, Prime Minister Hun Sen has urged North Korea’s new ambassador to resume talks about the hermit state’s nuclear program, Kao Kim Hourn, an official attached to the prime minister, told reporters at the Peace Palace on Friday 12th August.
Jan Yun Gon, the newly appointed North Korean ambassador, met with Prime Minister Hun Sen to discuss the nations’ close ties. Jan Yun Gon is born in the 1960s. He studied at the Kim Il Sung University. He also worked at the DPRK MOFA and other North Korean embassies in Asia before joining the North Korean embassy in Phnom Penh.
“The prime minister has called on the DPRK to comply with all relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council and urged the resumption of the six-party talks in order to maintain peace on the Korean peninsula,” said Hourn. “The premier stressed that what Cambodia wanted to see is peace and stability in the Korean peninsula.”
In June, Hun Sen met with a South Korean delegation and ‘‘assured South Korea that Cambodia condemns North Korea’s nuclear testing’’.
